ABOVE CLASS OPEN TO GRADUATES ONLY

This seminar will allow the participant to produce an article-length
piece on some topic of 19th-c. European history. The semester will
begin with several weeks of common readings, primarily articles that
will serve as models of approach, method, and conception. During
those weeks (or possibly before) the participant will develop a
topic statement and bibliography. The bulk of the semester will be
devoted to research and writing, punctuated by weekly
meetings/progress reports with the instructor. The paper will be due
at the end of the semester. Participants are expected to work with
original sources in a European language.
