An ample supply of safe drinking water and the proper treatment of
wastewater are necessary for protection of human health and the
environment. This course will cover aspects of (i) drinking water
supply, treatment, and distribution, and (ii) wastewater collection,
treatment, and disposal. Since a fundamental knowledge of these
subjects requires a basic understanding of relevant scientific
principles and concepts, the first portion of the course will cover
pertinent chemical, biological, and physical topics. Field trips to
nearby water and wastewater treatment plants will be arranged if
possible.
