Above section meets with A502

The course will focus on language use in social interaction in
different communities in Africa. We will discuss how greetings and
leave-takings are done; and how speech acts like requests, refusals,
and apologies are performed.  In looking at these speech acts, we
will discuss the art of indirect communication both verbally and in
writing.  Other aspects of the course will include a discussion of
African language classification, language families,language
policies, and writing systems.
