Linguistics | Semantics
L546 | 25418 | Sandra Kuebler

This course is an introduction to semantics for linguistics and
computational linguistics students. The course focuses on the
semantic meaning of words, phrases and sentences in natural
languages. It introduces students to several important topics,
including lexical semantics, first order logic, and componential
analysis. In the last third of the course, we will also look at
computational models of semantics, including semantic networks and
their application in word sense disambiguation and thematic role
extraction. This course assumes no preliminary knowledge of
semantics, but a course in syntax is presupposed.

The required textbook is John Saeed's (2003) book "Semantics".
