LSTU-L 290 International Trade, Labor and the Environment 1 cr hr;
Class Number 18202; 5:45-8:25 PM, Wednesday, BH005. Class meets
March 28, April 4, 11, 18 and 25. This course explores the links
between labor and the environment from an international
perspective. We discuss how actors – organized labor,
environmentalists, transnational corporations, and consumers –
manage labor and environmental issues in a context of increased
economic and trade liberalization, population pressures and resource
scarcities. Key questions we consider include: What are the
environmental implications of international trade and labor? Why is
it hard to bridge the rich-poor and urban-rural gaps? How can we
improve the North-South dialogue on trade and the environment? How
can we promote greater social and gender equity, and commitment to
environmental justice? Instructor: Tatyana Ruseva, SPEA, IUB.
