This course examines the history, trends, and transformations of
religious dimensions in U.S. American culture. This thematic study
of “the religious” in America examines such issues as
supernaturalism, film, science, gender, technology, nationalism, and
American meanings about the body. Students will read both primary
works and cultural theoretical studies of relevant topics.
Lectures, discussions, exams, and brief response papers inform the
work of the course.
