Study of selected films from the 1980s to the current period by
diasporic/'exilic' and European filmmakers that constitute an
evolving international cinematic movement in contrast to Hollywood
and mainstream European [national] cinemas. Emphasizing distinctive
styles and artisanal practices, these films share similar thematic
concerns--about transnational migration, race and the emigre
experience, and postcoloniality--and they are framed by the
deterritorializing processes of globalization.
