Every year in the U.S., over half a million inmates return to the
community after serving a term in prison.  Upon their return, former
inmates face significant challenges:  they must find employment and
housing, reestablish relationships, cope with the stigma of their
past, and avoid further contact with the criminal justice system.
The families and communities to which offenders return also face
tremendous challenges as they attempt to reintegrate former
offenders into their homes and neighborhoods.  This course examines
what happens when inmates come home and explores the consequences of
a policy of mass incarceration.
