An introductory survey of the art and archaeology of ancient Greece
and Rome from prehistoric times to the 2nd century A.D. Lectures,
readings, and assignments will focus on the nature and objectives of
classical archaeology and its contribution to our understanding of
the past. Special attention will be given to the formal development,
function, and context of Greek and Roman art and architecture, as
well as to issues of trade and contact with other civilizations in
the ancient Mediterranean. (A&H, CSA)
