Close study of seven Elizabethan plays: comedies: Merchant of Venice and Twelfth Night; histories Richard II and King John or 1 Henry IV; tragedies: Titus Andronicus, Julius Caesar, and Hamlet. Class is a mix of lecture and discussion. A mid-term, a final, and two essays constitute two thirds of the final grade, quizzes the remaining third.
