Prerequisite:  L542 or consent of the instructor

This course constitutes an intensive introduction to Optimality
Theory examining its basic principles and workings.  We will
introduce Optimality Theory by largely focusing on syllable
phonology and by considering a range of current issues. The
requirements include regular readings, a series of homework
assignments, at least two in-class oral presentations, and a term
paper.
