This course will review the theory, mechanisms, and processes of
biological evolution applied to problems of the primate and human
fossil record and contemporary human populations. Topics will include
reviews of evolutionary theory, life history theory and genetics,
non-human primate evolution, behavior and adaptations, human
evolutionary history and modern human variation. By the end of this
course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic
evolutionary theory and human evolution.
This course is required for anthropology majors and is a prerequisite
for more advanced courses in bioanthropology. This course carries N &
M credit towards the COAS distribution requirements. Grades are based
on three exams and several laboratory exercises.
