Prerequisite: grade of C or higher in C201 or equivalent proficiency
This course is designed to further develop students’ overall
language proficiency. Students will have opportunities to talk
about their lives, perform skits, read simple stories, and write
journals. Visual aids, authentic materials, and multimedia language
resources will also be incorporated to enhance learning
effectiveness. The class meets five hours a week: two hours of
interactive lectures and three hours of drills. Lectures focus on
the introduction of essential grammatical patterns and discussion of
the text; drills aim at helping students practice and internalize
key vocabulary, grammatical patterns, and situational dialogues.
Towards the end of this course, students will be able to achieve the
following: understand paragraph-length utterances and over longer
stretches of some connected discourses on a number of topics beyond
basic survival needs; handle successfully most communicative tasks
and social situations and support one’s opinions using simple
discourse strategies; read consistently with full understanding
simple connected text; write short letters, brief synopses,
summaries and biographical data and of work and school experience in
Daily and active participation in class is expected. Grades will be
based on daily performance, homework assignments, quizzes, lesson
tests, and oral/written exams.
