PREREQUISITE:  W203 or W301 or permission of the Director of
Creative Writing.

1:00p-2:15p TR (25 students) 3 cr.

This course focuses on a set of works by emerging, established and
exemplary authors in order to study literary fiction writing
techniques, including narrative point of view, narrative distance,
plot, characterization, and setting.   Stylistic elements such as
personification, metaphor, simile, sensory details, and repetition,
will also be emphasized. Students will write critical responses to
the course readings as well as a series of creative exercises
designed to develop their command of the literary techniques
studied.  The course is for students interested in creative writing
and the study of fiction. Course readings will include a mix of
critical works and selected fiction.  To obtain permission, send an
