9:30a-10:45a TR (15 students) 3 cr.
In this course you will deepen your study of the craft of writing
fiction. You will read a few collections of short stories, and
perhaps an anthology. A large part of the course will be in the
workshop format, where you will read and discuss one anotherís work.
Expect to write three to four stories during the semester, and also
to provide written critiques on your colleaguesí work. The aim is to
deepen your understanding of the story form through writing,
reading, and critiquing.
To apply, put in my mailbox in BH 442 a work of fiction (no longer
than 20 pages), as well as a brief essay (no more than a page) on
the creative writing courses youíve taken, with whom, and what makes
you want to take this course. Make sure these materials are in a
clearly marked envelope with your email address and phone number. If
youíre admitted, Iíll let you know within days, and you may contact
the creative writing secretary in BH 442 for authorization.
