Fine Arts | Italian Art of the Sixteenth Century
A432 | 25720 | Giles Knox

Graduate Students:
This lecture and discussion course will investigate art in Italy
during one of its most important and influential centuries. We will
focus much of our time on the artists of central Italy during the High
Renaissance, including such luminaries as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael,
and Michelangelo. In addition, we will examine the puzzling
phenomenon of Mannerism (Pontormo, Rosso, Bronzino, Parmigianino) and
the warm, painterly naturalism of Venetian art (Giorgione, Titian,
Tintoretto, Veronese).

Students will write a research paper and present the findings of this
study to the rest of the class.
