Fine Arts | Art Theory IV, Van Gogh, Gauguin & the Origins of Modernism
A474 | 25699 | A474

This course will study the theories and the works of the Post
Impressionists who turned their backs on Impressionism, accusing them,
in the words of Gauguin, of “neglecting the mysterious centers of
thought”. They sought new ways -- mystical, religious, symbolic, and
devised quasi-mathematical theories of color, physiognomy and
expression with which to express the new art.
