Undergraduate Student section:
This course is a study of the aesthetic, political, and social impact
of printing in Europe and the Americas, from the later fourteenth
century to roughly the present. Though technical questions do figure
in our analysis, we will attend in greatest depth to the cultural
ramifications of the so-called exactly reproducible pictorial
statement. Literacy and the like will also be of some importance.
