French and Italian | Reading & Expression in French
F300 | 7438 | MacPhail, Eric

In this course we will read an anthology of French lyric poetry from
the Middle Ages to the present, a 17th-century comedy by Corneille
entitled _l’Illusion comique_, a collection of short stories from the
20th century, and the early 19th-century novel _Adolphe_ by Benjamin
Constant. For the poetry and again for the short stories, students
will do a class presentation and write and rewrite a short
composition. For the play and the novel, there will be in-class essay
tests. The course grade will depend on the four written assignments
and on class participation. Prerequisite is F250, F255, or F265. F300
fulfills A & H requirement.
