LSTU-L 290 Labor and Immigration, 2 cr hrs; Class Number 11096; 5:45-
8:25 PM, Tuesday and Thursday, BH006. Class meets March 24, 26,
April 2, 4, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21 and 23. This class will focus on
immigration and immigrant workers in American society; history;
current legal rights; related public policy issues; immigrants in
unions and community organizations.  In this class we'll examine the
impacts of immigration policy on immigrant and native workers,
looking at several different industries (eg. agricultural, academia,
sports and high tech). We will first examine the history of
immigration policy as it relates to labor.  We will look at current
immigration laws and regulations and its affects on labor.  We'll
compare United States' to other industrial nations' immigration
policies.  We will analyze the current stance on immigration of US
unions and trade union federations.  We will also look at the role
of businesses in the immigration debate.  Instructor: Shariq
