Topic: Voting, Elections and Party Realignmemts

This course focuses on the political behavior of the American
electorate, especially electoral behavior. We shall examine a
variety of topics including voting turnout, electoral choice, party
identification, election campaigns, political cleavages, and party
coalitions. We will inquire about how elections can sometimes lead
to long-term partisan changes in the electorate. If citizen
political behavior can shape the choice of political leaders and the
content of public policy then elections are the most significant
vehicle for the expression of the publicís wishes.
