Second Language Studies | INDIVIDUAL VARIANCES IN L2 PHONOLOGICAL ATTAINMENT
S600 | 14401 | Darcy, I

Is there a specific talent for pronunciation? In this course, we
will look at the issue of attainment and individual differences in
SLA, focusing on accent and pronunciation (even though other areas
will be of interest too): Why do some late learners reach a high
level in L2 and others not? Why are there so many individual
differences in L2, whereas there are so few in L1? We will discuss
the neural and psychological basis for language talent, and
investigate factors like motivation, social interaction, instruction
type and training, age, but also learnability differences and
linguistic properties. Pre-requisite is SLST-S 532
