This course is an introductory course to the sociological study of
the social processes involved to produce and reproduce the modern
workplace, social organizations, and economic systems. Connecting
real-world examples to theoretical positions, we will discuss the
role that social institutions have in maintaining our market systems
from employment and occupations to firms and corporations in a micro
and macro sense of the economy. While familiarity and interest in
the topics to be taught in this course is happily welcomed, this
course is meant to introduce these topics to a general audience, and
thus does not assume any prior knowledge of economics, business, or
sociology.
