Treatment of phonological disorders in children is the primary focus
of this course. The experimental framework of single-subject design
will be integrated with the theoretical framework of efficacy
research to address three questions:
What are the behavioral effects of phonological treatment?
Which phonological treatment methods work?
Which phonological treatment method is best?
In answering these questions, guidelines for the selection of
treatment targets to promote optimal phonological gains will be
Available treatment methods will also be demonstrated including
traditional, cycles, paired stimulus, whole language, minimal pair,
and metaphon approaches. The outcome will be a programmatic way to
set goals and treat children with phonological disorders so as to
maximize treatment success.
