The Samurai Films of Kurosawa will look at the film making career of
one of the best-known of Japanese directors. It will also look at
his depiction of the samurai class as an indicator of his views of
Japanese society in the post-war period. Twelve to Fourteen films
will be shown. There will be midterm and final exams and several
reaction papers to the films. In addition to the class meetings an
additional time will be set up for film viewing.
