Fine Arts | Sinners and Saints in Italian Renaissance Art
A200 | 12919 | Anna Goodman
This course will examine the ways in which devotional art provided
Italian Renaissance society with opportunities to express not only
their piety and hopes for future salvation, but political allegiances,
military prowess, attitudes toward gender roles and the importance of
family, and belief in the miraculous. We will discuss how style and
site-specificity allowed artists such as Raphael, Michelangelo, and
Titian to communicate these layers of meaning to their viewers.
