This course focuses on the experiences of African-Americans in the
southern states from the end of the American Civil War to the Civil
Rights Movement.  Much attention will be given to culture and race
relations, as well as the ever-evolving nature of black identity in
the South.  Graded assignments will include reviews of assigned
books.
