This course explores the rich traditions of Sufism through
historical and anthropological perspectives. We will study Sufi
communities, sources of mysticism in Islam, the Sufi path, Sufi
saints and their writings, and Sufi Orders and their ritual and
artistic forms. We will also study the roles Sufi communities have
played and continue to play in Islamic societies.
