This course explores the Buddhist cultures of East Asia (China,
Korea, and Japan), with a focus on a set of places that range from
cave-complexes to temples, and from hells to heavens.  The reading
list draws heavily from primary sources (for example, narratives,
sutra literature, and poetry).  Requirements include two short
papers and active participation in class discussions.
