Telecommunications | Topical Seminar in TEL Processes & Effects
T602 | 15114 | Weaver, A

11:15AM-12:30PM MW

T602 is a graduate seminar that will examine the controversies
surrounding violence in the media. This includes thinking about why
violence is produced, who’s watching it, and whether or not it is
harmful. Thus, we will analyze social scientific research on the
amount of violence in the media today, the attraction of this
violence, origins of aggressive behavior, and the effects of
consuming violent content, among other things. We will also discuss
the many theories addressing media violence and aggression, and we
will consider how the existing research speaks to current attempts
at the regulation of violent media. These issues will be explored
in a number of media contexts, including movies, television, and
video games.
