Biology | Viral-Tissue-Culture Lab
M435 | 6115 | Mukhopadhyay, S

M435 is an laboratory class that introduces students to basic
techniques used in a virology laboratory. The class is divided into
three modules:
cell culture work, fundamental virology methods and applications,
and identification of an unknown virus sample. By the end of the
semester students should have a good understanding about maintaining
and growing mammalian cells, propagating virus samples, assaying for
virus infectivity, and using a combination of approaches to identify
key features or characteristics of an unknown virus sample.
Students will work in groups of 2 and a fair amount of laboratory
work outside scheduled class-time is required. Individuals with
chronic health issues should consult with a physician before taking
the class.
