BIOL T312—Societal Issues of Biotechnology
3 credits
Spring 2011
Jeffrey S. Ankrom

This course surveys social, ethical, legal, and environmental issues
in biotechnology. We explore underlying notions of ethics, human
relations with nature, property rights, regulation, patenting,
responses to new technologies, biomedical ethics, research ethics,
risk management, and sustainability. Particular attention is given
to critical thinking and to what makes particular arguments
enlightening, compelling, misleading, vulnerable, or ineffective.
