Above class open to undergraduates only

This course will survey aspects of U.S. history from 1865 through
the 1990s, paying special attention to social, cultural and
political trends. What have been the driving forces behind the
nation's role in the world? How have such factors as race,
ethnicity, immigration, gender, and religion shaped America’s
national identity? How did ordinary individuals respond to the
challenges of their day? Join us in searching for answers to these
and many other questions. The course will involve in-class
examinations and standard scale (0-100 points) grading.
