Y334 Japanese Politics

This course examines modern Japan's political institutions and public
policy.  After a brief review of the pre-World War II period, topics
will include the American Occupation of Japan, the party system,
bureaucracy, citizensí movements, and state policy toward pollution,
working mothers, morals, the economy, terrorism, and military
security.  There are no prerequisites.  Class meetings combine
lectures and student discussion.  The written work for the course is
two exams and a term paper.
