COAS Bulletin Description
Study of the skills, processes, and attitudes required for effective
management and leadership at all levels in telecommunications
Create an understanding of management in general and specifically in
telecommunications. Develop skills that will be necessary to manage
telecommunications in an increasingly changing media landscape.
Develop confidence in your leadership skills and abilities.

Discussion, lecture, web, guest speakers, and video. Classes will
supplement readings, not repeat them. Attendance is mandatory. On
time attendance is expected. Quizzes and essays will be scheduled
and unscheduled. Participation in class is highly desirable.
Robust discussion and disagreement is encouraged. Debating and
representing your points and positions are expected. Class
participation will be 20 - 25% of your final grade.
Graded papers, projects and exams
Several media management cases will be presented. You are to keep a
folder of these that includes the case itself, your analysis, and
recommendations. In addition, include your notes from class for
each case and a summary of changes that you would make to your
original ideas after hearing class review. How did your thinking
change? Your folder will be turned in the nest to last week of
regularly scheduled classes. Your folder will account for 5 - 10%
of your grade.
You will be assigned a major project at midterm. This project will
account for 30 - 35% of your grade. The project will have elements
that will require individual thinking and elements that will require
group and collaborative thinking and problem solving.
