TITLE:  WRITE OF PASSAGE:  WRITING IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY

Why write?  How are writers and writing portrayed in television programs
and movies?  What are the uses and limitations of writing?  What is the
relationship between writing and identity?  Do email, hypertext, and the
World Wide Web mean the end of writing as we know it?  In this course we
will develop reading and writing skills necessary for writing successful
college papers and consider the larger question:  what is the role of
writing in American society as we near the year 2000?
