Fine Arts | Art of the South Pacific

This course is a one-semester survey of the visual art traditions of Australia and the South
Pacific island groups of Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia. It focuses on style regions,
individual island styles, and the cultural and historical contexts of objects. The emphasis is on the
traditional arts, but contemporary forms will also be discussed. This course meets with A351.
An extra assignment/project will be exected from graduate students.
