In addition to the textbook, we will use such authentic materials as newspaper articles, poems,
advertisements, songs, slides and videos of Turkey. A CD-rom program on Turkey and
information related to Turkey, available on the Internet, will also be included. At the end of this
course you will have acquired basic skills in Turkish that will enable you to cope with situations of
daily life. You will also be able to understand simple written instructions and skim more complex
texts for general meaning.
Classroom activities will focus on developing your speaking and listening skills. You will practice
reading and writing mostly in your homework assignments. You will also hand in weekly audio
cassette tapes on which you will record your speaking assignments.
In addition to short quizzes, you will take a 50-minute exam after each unit. The course also has
an oral exam and a final exam.
