| Undergraduate Seminar: Experimental Ceramics
P399 | 0481 | Vitelli
In this class we dig our own clays and make ceramic objects using
only tools, materials, and techniques that would have been available to
prehistoric potters. The object is to test archaeological hypotheses and
learn the processes of ceramics. Studio work is accompanied by readings
and videos of ethnographic and archaeological materials. Prudence Rice's
book "Pottery Analysis: A Sourcebook" is the text.
No prerequisites, but students should email the instructor
(firstname.lastname@example.org) when they have registered, to receive instructions
for digging and preparing clay before the ground freezes.
