This course offers an introduction to the world of ancient Rome
through a study of art, architecture, and technology coordinated
with selected readings from the works of Livy, Cicero, Vergil,
and Petronius.  We will cover Roman social life (family,
religion, entertainment, sex), art and culture (poetry, painting,
sculpture), and civic institutions (law, government, public
works, like aqueducts and roads).  Students will be evaluated on
the basis of short writing assignments, exams, and class
participation.
