Topic: Classroom Research in Second Language Acquisition Theory
Classroom research is research conducted in classrooms or research which
helps us understand better what goes on in classrooms. This course will
examine methodologies and issues in second-language acquisition (L2)
classroom research. The main focus will be characteristics of research
methodologies and the pedagogical aspects of L2 classroom research issues.
The goals of this course are for students 1) to learn
about research methods, 2) to examine various implications to language
pedagogy that emerge from classroom research, and 3) to be able to conduct
classroom research.
The class will be a seminar format, conducted in English. Students'
current (or previous) language teaching experiences and knowledge of a
second language (less commonly taught languages and others)
are desirable. Requirements will include participation in class
discussion, as well as some combination of research critiques, class
presentation, and a term paper.
