E309 - Survey of Law and Economics

The goal of the course is to use economic analysis to examine the
legal system. The course emphasizes positive, rather than normative,
analysis, i.e. it uses economics to understand the principles of the
existing law instead of trying to make prescriptions. The course
concentrates on evaluating the economic efficiency of the existing
laws and the behavioral incentives they generate. Economic analysis
of law, rather than legal process, is emphasized. The main
components of the course are property law, contract law, and torts.
Some aspects of family law and sex law are also covered.
