COAS INTENSIVE WRITING SECTION. OPEN TO MAJORS
ONLY. DECLARED MINORS OBTAIN AUTHORIZATION
As the introduction to the English major, L202 concerns itself with
training students in the techniques and languages of interpretation.
We will turn to a variety of genres--poetry, fiction, drama--with a
primary goal of learning the elements of literature in a manner that
can continue to be useful throughout the undergraduate careers of
majors. Written work will include a number of smaller writing
assignments leading to fuller interpretive essays. Texts will include
an omnibus poetry anthology (TBA), along with a few stand-alone
texts, most likely including David Mamet's OLEANNA and
Angela Carter's THE BLOODY CHAMBER.
