Fiction & Poetry
This course will help students further develop their skills in writing
short fiction and poetry, and help them to learn to read published
writing critically in order to see the strategies used by successful
writers. Class time will be divided between writing workshops and
student-generated discussions of readings.
Written course work will include critical commentaries on
published writing, multiple drafts of students' own stories and
poems (written in response to assignments), and a self-reflective
essay on the writing process. Students will finish the semester with
a portfolio of writing suitable to submit for application to upper
level creative writing courses.
