Topic: Baroque Art in the IU Art Museum
Prerequisites: Survey Classes (FINA A102)

This course is intended to be a general undergraduate survey of 17th
century European painting using the IUAM collection s as a focus.
The class will make many visits to the collection. Each student
will select or be assigned a painting for the class. In addition
to the mid-term and final exams the principal assignment will be a
paper dedicated to the painting. Students will use the semester to
research the artist, the subject, and other relevant topics related
to that particular work. The paper will discuss how the selected
example relates to the developments of the seventeenth century.

Students will be asked to select their work early in the semester.
They will be using the rest of the semester to develop the tools
and skills necessary to discuss their painting with understanding
and insight.
