Fine Arts | 19th Century Painting II
A441 | 1992 | Davezac

Between 1850-1900 France underwent major changes politically,
socially and culturally. Individual artists responded to these
dynamic forces in very different ways. This course will examine
the artistic movements of Realism, Impressionism and Post
Impressionism in the work of a selected number of artists in the
context of the cultural, theoretical and political forces which
helped to develop, sustain, or thwart their oeuvre.

Lectures and class discussion will revolve around visual
analysis of artists' work as well as readings from original texts
of the period by artists and critics.
