Topic: Sieber and McNaughton Discuss the Field
What has made Africa one of the most exciting areas for art
history studies? What are the myths and truths of African art
history's relationship to anthropology? What can you learn when
you really look carefully at an African mask or sculpture? Why
does art get around so much in Africa? Where is this particular
discipline now and where should it be going?
These and lots more questions are on the agenda for FINA
A458, which will be (tag) team-taught by Roy Sieber and Patrick
McNaughton, in a condensed, intensive, 8 week course that will
feature lots of interaction between the two professors and lots
of opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to
explore the history and development of a relatively new area of
art historical study. Bring your vitamin "C" because it ought to
be a wild ride.
