French And Italian | Advanced Grammar and Composition I
F313 | 2284 | Carr

French F313 is the first half of a two-course sequence devoted to
a comprehensive study of French grammar. The course makes ample
use of translation from English as a means of acquiring
expressive skills in French. Along with the formal study of
grammar and levels of style, stress will be given to developing
the skill of error recognition. Five readings, drawn from modern
French fiction, are studied for their language interest.

Required textbooks:
Harpers's Grammar of French
Readings and Lessons to Accompany Harper's Grammar of
French

Students should have access to a major French dictionary. A good
English-French dictionary will also be useful.

The course will be conducted in French, as are all courses at
this level. There will be two hour-tests and a final
examination.
