Pre-requisite: F313. This is the second half of a two-course
sequence devoted to a comprehensive study of French grammar.
Emphasis is on the written language, and the course makes ample
use of translation from English as a means of improving
expressive skills in French. In addition to the formal study of
grammar, five readings drawn from modern short fiction are
studied for their language interest.
Required textbooks: Harper's Grammar of French and
Readings and Lessons to Accompany Harper's Grammar of
French. Students are expected to own or have access to a
good French dictionary (e.g., Dictionnaire de
français [Larousse]) and a good French-English/
English-French dictionary (e.g., Collins-Robert).
