French And Italian | History of the French Language II
F604 | 2313 | Rosenberg
Prerequisite: F603. This course will mainly treat three matters:
1) various issues of internal development that were not developed
or only minimally developed in F603 (e.g., nasalization,
post-medieval evolution of verb morphology, impersonal verbs);
2) aspects of work on the language in the 16th century (e.g.,
grammars, dictionaries, spelling, significance of Latin); 3)
dialectal (i.e., non-Francien) traits of Old and Middle French
literary texts. Students will prepare one topic for oral
presentation and subsequent submission in writing; there will be
no final examination. No required text.
